A fresh install of WordPress isn’t very exciting to look at, so one of the first things you’ll want to do is pick a theme that will add a new face to the plain structure that makes the basic look and feel design. Picking themes can be a very simple process of simply selecting something that catches your eye and matches the feel you think suits your blog, however as you become more experienced you will likely find that your initial choice doesn’t tick all the boxes you are looking for. Luckily you can change your theme as often as you want, and the under lying content remains untouched. You don’t want to be changing your theme too often on an established blog, but in the early days you shouldn’t take your choice too seriously.
Lesson one of the Blog School throws you in at the deep end and might leave you with a lot of buzz words rattling around your brain and a big “Now What?” feeling, so this follow up lesson explores a few of the concepts introduced already and starts to look at blogging in general so as you branch out and look at resources on your own you will be more comfortable with the terms you come across.
Welcome to lesson one of the Mojo Projects Blog School in this first lesson we’ll go over what a blog is, some jargon and Internet concepts then look at setting up your first blog on either a free service or professionally hosting your own blog to take full control of ever aspect of managment.
This is the most complex part of running a blog, so I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible and will be on hand to offer any additional help where I can.
It seems like people are always asking me to help them setup websites, and most commonly people want – at least in part – a blog to present themselves to the world. As a developer this is great for me, as a solution like WordPress gives them a great looking site they can maintain without needing to come back to me.
But there are still a lot of technical functions under the hood that are hard to discover for people who have better things to do with their time them explore their blog options, and who might be worried about breaking things. Plus there is a whole world of social media beyond just setting up your blog and hoping people find it that can be hard to break into at first. read this entry »
